3:20 Dismissal – Bus students will line up in their bus line; Walkers and students being picked up will be dismissed at the side of the school, outside Door C (by the daycare’s playground).

About Our School  

St. Joseph’s Catholic Elementary School is a JK to Grade 4 School in Tillsonburg, Ontario. St. Joseph’s opened on Frances St. in l964 and the first addition was completed in 1968. The most recent addition opened in 2004, when St. Mary’s Catholic School (now the Father Langan Parish Centre) was closed. The staff and students of St. Joseph’s and the former St. Mary’s were amalgamated in September, 2004 to form the present day structure at St. Joseph’s.

St. Joseph’s Catholic School consists of: 

-17 classrooms (4 Kindergarten, 13 gr. 1-4) 
-A library and gymnasium 
-Staff and administration areas 
-A large snack program kitchen 
-Laundry facilities 
-A licensed provincial daycare facility 

 

Living Our Faith  

The staff and students of St. Joseph’s Catholic School have many opportunities to pray and practice their Catholic faith. These include: 

  • Classroom liturgies as well as regular school-wide paraliturgies and monthly awards 
  • A children's choir which ministers to school masses, as well as once a month at St. Mary's church masses 
  • Celebrations of the Sacraments of First Communion (Grade 2) and Reconciliation (grades 2) 
  • Regular Masses celebrated at the Church and in the school gymnasium 
  • Benedictions, Stations of the Cross, and/or Holy Hours at the Church 
  • A vibrant after school and/or weekend and/or summer youth program run by the parish 
  • Masses marking key celebrations in the school and Church calendar years (opening of school, Christmas Family Advent Mass, End of School Year, etc.) 

 

Transportation Information  

Approximately 85% of our students are bussed. Students are served by Lang’s Bus Lines. Please visit https://www.mybigyellowbus.ca/ for further bus related information.

  

School Safety  

The parking lot and front walkway are visually accessible from the Principal’s and Secretary’s offices.
All visitors must identify themselves verbally and on camera before being allowed to enter the school. 
The students' back playground/yard area is fenced in and gated. The gates are locked daily during school hours. 
The staff and students have regular practice for various types of emergencies through fire drills, lockdowns, and tornado drills. 
Safe School’s Arrival Program is in place at St. Joseph’s which include:  
  • -Procedures in place for locking of exterior doors during/after school hours; 
  • -All parents, volunteers, visitors, and trades people are required to sign in at the Main Office; 
  • -Students who walk to/from school or who are picked up remain in the school until all buses have departed; 
  • -Other components, as communicated in current year Student Agenda 

  

Allergy Awareness  

  

We are a nut freeAny items containing nuts will be sent home, uneatenWhen planning to send in festivities to a class, please consider sharing a non-food related item (pencils, erasers, play-doh, pop-its, stickers, etc.)If treats are brought, they will be packed in students lunches to go home for parents to decide if/when they will be consumed.   

  

We are a scent free schoolWe have several people with documented medical conditionsYou will be asked to leave the school if you are wearing a strong scent (perfumes, cologne's, fabric softeners, essential oils, etc.)  

  

Please also be aware we have allergies to animalsIt would be helpful to leave pets at home during pick up and drop off.  

  

Cashless School 

  

Please note the school cannot accept cash. Payments for school items such as field trips, milk, hot lunches, fundraisers etc., are made using Schoolcashonline. Please pay attention to due dates in our ‘Weekly Update’, as we will be unable to accept late orders.

This is a secure payment option that requires only that you have either a credit card or a bank account and know your complete account (including transit) number. This same account can be used from kindergarten to high school in our system. If you are not yet set up, we are happy to help. Contact the office  

   

Food Orders      

  

Food orders for the next month will always be available on School Cash Online from the 13th to the 23rd of each month. For example, November food orders will be on School Cash Online October 13th - October 23rd. A reminder, the school cannot accept cash or late orders. If your child(ren) is/are absent, families are asked to inform teachers if they would like the meal saved for the next dayIf there is no notification given, another student who does not have lunch will receive the mealRefunds cannot be given.    

  

Catholic School Council:  

Our Catholic School Council works as an advisory body to the school staff to promote and encourage a positive and healthy school climate that inspires the academic, spiritual, social, and emotional growth of all students within our Catholic community.  Meetings are open to anyone at any time, dates will be communicated in the school’s ‘Weekly Highlights’.  

  

Dress Code:  

In general, clothing should be modest. Drawings or slogans that are sexual, racist, promote drugs, alcohol, or violence are not appropriate; shorts & skirts should be mid-thigh; undergarments not visible; midriffs covered. We encourage shirts to cover the shoulders to protect from harmful ultraviolet radiation. Please ensure footwear allows for running and safe play at school.

St. Joseph’s is environmentally conscious and embraces current technological opportunities. Once a week you will receive a school update, called St. Joseph's weekly emailed via School Messenger. In it, you will receive a picture(s) of the current weeks lost and found itemsAt the end of the next week, any remaining items are donated.
